Members of the Kansas City Chiefs 2014 offensive line pose with their 442d Fighter Wing morale T-shirts. Both the fighter wing and linemen share the nickname the KC Hogs. The shirts, thirteen size XXXL shirts, were a gift of 442d Fighter Wing commander, at the request of the Chief's general manager.

Thunderbolt dedication

SALINA, Kan. - Seen through the view finder of a reporter's camera, Major David Kurle, 442nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs officer, leads the applause at the Wing's "Thunderbolt of Salina" dedication ceremony here, Jan. 23. One of the wing's A-10 Thunderbolt II's became the fourth aircraft to carry the name of Salina, a central Kansas community that was once the home of the former Schilling Air Force Base, now the city's airport. Previous aircraft named for Salina included two bombers, a B-17 in 1944, a B-47 in 1954 and a KC-135 tanker in 1961. Salina continues to have a military presence with the nearby Smoky Hill Air National Guard Range and, in October, will host Hawgsmoke 2008, the Air Force's biennial A-10 Thunderbolt II bomb and gunnery competition. Tip of the Spear

Tech. Sgt. Dewayne Magnuson has been assigned to the 442nd Maintenance Group Quality Assurance office as an inspector since August 2008. During this period, Sergeant Magnuson has demonstrated outstanding initiative, exceptional job knowledge and superior craftsmanship while performing his duties as an aircraft maintenance inspector. As a team player who adheres to strict compliance with technical data, safety requirements and appearance standards, Sergeant Magnuson continually sets the standard for fellow reservists to follow. He is aggressively devoted to meeting the requirements of the Air Force Reserve Command maintenance standardization evaluation program. Sergeant Magnuson is responsible for the operation of the aircraft weight and balance program, the functional check flight program, and works with the equipment specialists and engineers in the special-projects office to obtain specialized repair procedures leading to rapid aircraft repairs and higher mission-capable rates. His can-do attitude and professionalism is a model for other personnel. Tip of the Spear January 2011

Staff Sgt. Carl Hawke is a medical technician assigned to the 442nd MDS. His advanced knowledge and dedicated service to the Air Force Reserves and the members of the 442nd Fighter Wing has earned him the Tip of the Spear for the Medical Squadron. While serving as the supervisor of the wing self-aid and buddy care program, Sergeant Hawke earned the Operations Readiness Exercise 10th Air Force Outstanding Performer Award. Sergeant Hawke built and implemented the 442nd FW’s self-aid and buddy care training plan from the ground up, to ensure the process was maintained and efficiently operated to maximize the worldwide duty status of wing personnel. Sergeant Hawke is instrumental in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and Heartsaver certification of wing personnel and is certified by the American Heart Association as an instructor trainer and an emergency medical technician for the past 10 years. While not on military duty, Sergeant Hawke is a telemetry technician and CPR instructor for Kindred Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. and a tissue procurement technician for Midwest Transplant Network, minimizing vital valuable time between donors and awaiting recipients. Tip of the Spear: August 2011

Tech. Sgt. Lynett Korchmaros is the group military personnel specialist and noncommissioned officer in charge of the commander’s support staff for the 924th Fighter Group. She is also employed in the same role as a civilian for the squadron. She serves as a unit liaison to the military and civilian personnel offices. In this role, she is the resident subject-matter expert for all mandated administrative support programs such as task management; drug demand reduction program; government purchase and travel card programs, civilian time cards, AROWS-R, UTAPS, DCPDS, MilPDS, and AFRIMS. She also provides training for fighter group reservists in areas related to the programs. Korchmaros was selected as the NCO of the Quarter as a result of her superior knowledge, skills and abilities. She organized training for new officers to the unit and laid groundwork for a successful Reserve integration. She currently manages the unit’s more than $25,000 GPC annual supply and operations account with zero discrepancies on numerous purchases. Korchmaros’ dedication and leadership has raised orderly room performance and rapport with outside agencies critical to the unit’s success. She is an action-oriented Airman and her demeanor and work ethic set the standard for others, making her this month’s Tip of the Spear for the 924th Fighter Group.
