Tech. Sgt. Dewayne Magnuson has been assigned to the 442nd Maintenance Group Quality Assurance office as an inspector since August 2008. During this period, Sergeant Magnuson has demonstrated outstanding initiative, exceptional job knowledge and superior craftsmanship while performing his duties as an aircraft maintenance inspector. As a team player who adheres to strict compliance with technical data, safety requirements and appearance standards, Sergeant Magnuson continually sets the standard for fellow reservists to follow. He is aggressively devoted to meeting the requirements of the Air Force Reserve Command maintenance standardization evaluation program. Sergeant Magnuson is responsible for the operation of the aircraft weight and balance program, the functional check flight program, and works with the equipment specialists and engineers in the special-projects office to obtain specialized repair procedures leading to rapid aircraft repairs and higher mission-capable rates. His can-do attitude and professionalism is a model for other personnel. Sven Loeffler, both A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots with the 303d Fighter Squadron, 442d Fighter Wing out of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., made history Aug. 26 at Leilvarde Air Base in Latvia being the first U.S. fighter pilots to land a jet at the airfield. Maj. Rick Mitchell, a 303d Fighter Squadron A-10 Thunderbolt II pilot with the 442d Fighter Wing out of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., shows a Latvian firefighter some safety features on the A-10 Aug. 26 at Leilvarde Air Base in Latvia. Mitchell was the first U.S. fighter pilot to land a fighter jet at the airfield. Col. James Macaulay commands the 442d Fighter Wing's Operations Group. He commissioned in 1984 and has since flown nearly 6,000 hours in the OA-37 and A-10. He has flown close air support and ground attack missions in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Deny Flight, Northern Watch, Southern Watch and Allied Force. He has trained more than 400 pilots.
