Bennett, U.S. Army Financial Management Command commanding general, presents Greg Schmalfeldt, Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis director, with an Army Excellence in Financial Stewardship Award for Fiscal Year 2019 at the Maj. Gen. Emmett J. Bean Federal Center in Indianapolis Dec. 3, 2019. Immediately upon joining the Command Accountability and Execution Review program, the Army’s fiscal stewardship program that provides commanders with visibility of command fiscal health and holds leaders at every echelon responsible and accountable for stewardship of the tax dollars, Schmalfeldt demonstrated strong leadership, and his solutions provided to the program immediately reduced manual workload on transportation billing by 75 percent and freed up approximately $170 million in funding for use on other priorities.
