D-Day

The 442nd Troop Carrier Group's Chaplain, Robert W. Tindall, known affectionately as "Chaplain Bob," was an ever-present force within the Group in the run up to D-day and throughout the remainder of the war in Europe. Chaplain Bob had a unique view of the human factor in the Group?s participation in D-Day. He greeted each crew upon their return after the mission, mourned those who did not and buoyed the spirits of those who faced future missions. The 442nd TCG was the World War II predecessor of the 442nd Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command A-10 Thunderbolt II unit based at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.
