FACE to face discussion
BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Capt. Thomas Kanewskie, an A-10 pilot deployed here from the 81st Fighter Squadron, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, dicusses how a FACE pod works on an A-10 Thunderbolt II with crew chiefs, Staff Sgt. Tammy Kjos, middle, and Tech. Sgt. Robert Boye. Sergeants Kjos and Boye are deployed here from the 442nd Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve unit from Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo. The FACE pod allows pilots to talk to soldiers and tactical air controllers on the ground via cell or satellite phones during close air support missions. The pod is mounted on the wing of the A-10.
