Bombs Away
A formation of B-17 Flying Fortresses conducts a daylight bombing raid over German-held territory during World War II. Many of the aircrew members on aircraft shot down during the war ended up in German prisoner of war camps like Stalag Luft III in what is now Poland. The 442nd Fighter Wing public Web site will feature a series of stories about the experiences of some of these American Airmen. The four-part series will be added to each month and will be posted in its own section on the site's home page. (U.S. Air Force photo)
