Whiteman AFB 442nd Fighter Wing
A crew chief with the 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman helps prepare an A-10 Thunderbolt II for launch, Dec. 8. Pilots and crew chiefs worked together to execute sorties throughout the day and conducted hot pit refueling to keep their skills sharp and achieve additional sorties. Hot pit refueling is a procedure usually performed in combat situations to rapidly refuel aircraft while their engines are running, resulting in a speedy refuel to thrust pilots right back into the fight.
