Pittsburgh native Air Force Tech. Sgt. Frank Monacelli, a structures specialist on his second deployment measures a plank of wood in the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division compound on Forward Operating Base Shank. Monacelli’s first mission in Afghanistan was to go to COP Blessing in North Eastern Afghanistan. “No power, no running water, no chow hall; eating was a MRE.
