Confined-space exercise

Master Sgt. John Manning, 442nd Maintenance Squadron fuels technician waits for an ambulance during a confined-space exercise April 20, 2012. The exercise, mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Air Force Instruction and Air Force Occupational Safety and Health, simulated a technician falling unconscious in an A-10 Thunderbolt II fuel tank. Technicians simulated harnessing and lifting the injured Airmen from the fuselage, performing self aid and buddy care, and assisting emergency personnel.
