Commentary: Happy Holidays from the 442d FW Commander Published Dec. 6, 2013 By Col. Hubie Hegtvedt 442d Fighter Wing WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- As we look forward to this holiday season and the New Year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to each of you, your families and employers for the sacrifices you make for our country each and every day. The men and women of the 442d Fighter Wing have answered the call to service during a critical time in our nation's history. Many of you are preparing to deploy overseas, perhaps for the first time in your military careers, while others will be deploying for another tour. This courage and willingness to defend our freedom is a beacon for all Americans. The New Year promises challenges and changes as we continue our mission to defend our nation and the cause of freedom around the world. Please know that your contributions make the 442d FW a valued and respected member of the Total Force. It is my sincere hope that during this holiday season you are surrounded by the people that matter most, but also remember that some may not have this luxury. Many folks may be far from loved ones or on duty protecting us. Please keep them in your thoughts or prayers. Lastly, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention safety. The winter weather is here, with icy roads, snow, holiday traffic and lots of distractions. Please take care of yourselves and be great wingmen when/if required. Often said, and absolutely true; we need everyone back in 2014 to continue the exceptional work the 442d Fighter Wing is known for. Camille and I salute you, and wish you and yours Happy Holidays and a safe and joyous New Year. We are proud of your patriotism and loyalty to our great nation. It is an honor to serve with each of you here at Whiteman, and we cannot thank you enough for the sacrifices that you make every day. Cheers!
