Survivors quilt: Built for comfort Published March 12, 2015 By Senior Airman Stephan Kuipers 509th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- As you all may remember from years past, April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year, in an attempt to further personalize the issue of sexual assault, some victim advocates and members of the community are putting together a survivors quilt. The purpose of the quilt is to give survivors of sexual assault an opportunity to personalize a square with words of inspiration that get them through each day, their experiences of victim blaming, why they reported the crime, why they didn't report the crime or anything they'd like. These squares will then be sewn together and displayed throughout the year. However, the project is not to be limited to survivors that are military members. If you know of a survivor that is a spouse, dependent, parent, sibling or friend that may want to personalize a square, they are welcome to do so. Further guidelines for picking up squares anonymously are posted outside the SAPR office.
