Between turning wrenches and launching jets on a busy assignment overseas, service members still found time to help out the local community.

Approximately 25 Airmen from the 442d Fighter Wing out of Whiteman Air Force Base Mo., paired up with the Estonian and German military to help repair a playground, build a long jump, and clear a field for playing soccer at Lehola Lasteaed, a local elementary school outside of Amari Air Base in Estonia.

The Reservists have been here for about a month supporting Operation Atlantic Resolve where the U.S. is demonstrating its continued commitment to reassure NATO allies and partners of America's dedication to ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The Airmen have been working hard daily maintaining and launching jets, but still found time to help the community.

"We are humbled by the help and hard work of the service members," said Dina Mikfeldt, a teacher for the after school program. "This may actually lead to a soccer team here, the first one we've ever had.

"Working together like this is what this exercise has been about; building relationships with foreign countries not only on the defense side, but in the community as well," said Chief Master Sgt. Darold Fish, 442d Maintenance Squadron Munitions Flight Chief.

"Seeing the planes flying overhead this past month for the first time in 20 years gives the kids the impression of war because that's what it's always been here.  Having the kids work side by side with the military members on a project like this tells the kids that this is a good thing, that we are here to help," said Fish.
