WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Maj. John Goodwin III assumed command of the 442d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in a ceremony September 11, 2021, here.
Goodwin is the previous commander of the 442d Maintenance Squadron, and took command of the AMXS after the previous commander, Maj. Bobby Cheek, moved on to become the deputy commander of maintenance for the 926th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
“I have been here at Whiteman AFB for two years,” Goodwin said. “In that time, my family and I have invested in the MXS mission. I had the opportunity to come to AMXS and invest in this squadron as well.”
As commander, Goodwin hopes to fulfill the AMXS mission to create a well-balanced culture, meet operations requirements, and train Airmen.
“Overall, I want to take care of the Airmen (and families),” he said, “and ensure they are trained to meet the next high end fight at a moment’s notice!”
Goodwin has been a maintenance officer for 11 years.
