WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo.-- Meet Staff Sgt. Megan Coleman, a water and fuel systems maintenance craftsman for the 442d Civil Engineer Squadron.
442d Fighter Wing Public Affairs: “What do you usually do here for CE?”
Sgt. Megan Coleman: “Usually just plumbing and maintaining the fuel line on the flight line.”
PA: “What do you do in your civilian life?”
K: “I go to school at the University of Missouri Kansas City and am working on my degree in business management, and I actually just got accepted into dental school which is my next step then I find out in December if I commission to be a dentist so we will see how that goes.”
PA: “What do you like the about the Air Force?”
K: “I like the structure the Air Force gave me before college as well as the discipline which probably attributed to a lot of my success in school.”
PA: “What made you want to join in the first place?”
K: “It’s actually a funny story, so I got a call from an Army Reserves recruiter and he asked me what do I want to do in my life and I told him that I wanted to be a dentist. Then he said that we can offer you $90,000 to go to school and told my parents about how I wanted to join the Army Reserves, and then my uncle took me to an Air Force Reserves recruiter. I joined the Air force essentially for school and then I got to boot camp and tech school and realized that this is something that I want to do, I just want to switch into a different career field.”
PA: “What is one of your favorite memories so far?”
K: “Definitely going to Italy with CE and going with a group to Rome on the weekend that was pretty fun. I honestly never thought as a kid that I would see some of the stuff we saw over there like the colosseum, and working in Aviano and eating good food definitely.”
