Thunderbolt of Lincoln
A delegation from Lincoln, Mo., visits the 442nd Fighter Wing Oct. 16, 2007, to see A-10, number 109, designated the "Thunderbolt of Lincoln." The delgation, led by Liconln Mayor Glenn Nelson, received a mission briefing and enjoyed a static display of the A-10 Thunderbolt II named for their city. Almost all of the 442nd FW's A-10s are named for cities in western and central Missouri that are part of the Whiteman Air Force Base Community Council. The 442nd is an Air Force Reserve Command unit, whose roots go back to 1943, when the 442nd Troop Carrier Group stood up at what was then Sedalia Army Airfield, Mo. (U.S. Air Force photo/Maj.
