A public affairs specialist from the 442nd Fighter Wing has been named the Air Force's top journalist for 2007, in addition to winning the award for the best Air Force series.

Tech. Sgt. Leo Brown, who was named the Air Force Reserve Command's top journalist in February, was announced as the Air Force's winner March 7.

Sergeant Brown won best series in the Air Force's media contest for his four-part story on prisoners of war from World War II. The series appeared in the 442nd Fighter Wing's monthly magazine, The Mohawk, and is still on the wing's public Web site.

Several stories written by Sergeant Brown in 2007 were judged at the Secretary of the Air Force's Public Affairs office in order for him to earn the title of Air Force Journalist of the Year.

Sergeant Brown has been in the 442nd Fighter Wing's public affairs office since joining the Air Force Reserve in 2001 and before that was a public affairs specialist on active duty from 1989 to 1992.

"(This announcement) makes my day," Sergeant Brown said when told about the awards.
