The Air Force recently decided to remove 45-day deployment data from its officer selection briefs.

This change is a total force initiative that affects the Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. In the Air Force Reserve, the change will go into effect with the April 2009 chaplain and line of the Air Force judge advocate major and lieutenant colonel selection boards.

"Deployments are documented elsewhere in officer selection records," said Col. Gerald R. Costello, commander of the Air Reserve Personnel Center in Denver.

For example, deployment information appears in decoration citations, officer performance report bullets, performance recommendation form statements and letters to officer promotion boards.

"For these reasons, deployment data from the promotion briefs will be removed," said Colonel Costello.
