The Air Force Reserve is scheduled to expand a test program called Development and Training Flight, currently being tested at five installations.

DTF was created to increase the success rate of new members going in to basic military training and technical school. This is done by immersing the new reservist in military life from the time they sign up to the time they ship out for training, which could be anywhere from one day to several months.

Staff Sgt. Jessica Harrell, 442nd Force Support Squadron resource center manager, said many people joining the Air Force Reserve want to join and begin work right away.

"Sometimes though, there are not any class dates open," she said. "Development and Training Flight will provide the military experience and keep reservists on track until they can get trained."

Harrell said DTF Airmen will receive instruction in a classroom setting, with courses in military etiquette, customs and courtesies, and military rank structure. Members also will be trained in marching, team-building exercises, and participate in physical training.
