Senior Master Sgt. Roy Santos is the accessory flight chief for the 442nd Maintenance Squadron. An A-10 Thunderbolt II crew chief by trade, Santos supervises and directs a broad spectrum of backshop maintenance personnel to include electric, hydraulic, egress, and fuels systems specialists. He is a maintainer with unmatched experience, and is no stranger to balancing a long list of additional duties. While serving as a flight chief, he has taken on added responsibilities as an operational readiness inspection steering group member, crash recovery team chief, and frequently serves as a maintenance squadron production supervisor coordinating all 442nd MXS activities.

In 2012, Sergeant Santos served as the self inspection monitor and combined unit inspection point of contact for the 442nd Maintenance Group. He skillfully established major inspection milestones and a timeline that balanced rigorous CUI preparation actions with the demands of daily operational requirements. He quickly became the group's subject matter expert on use of the management internal control toolset, and successfully oversaw more than 19,000 individual checklist line items.

Santos was the maintenance group's top contributor to the many successes of the 442nd FW's CUI, and is therefore the wing's Tip of the Spear for December.
