Colonel Mark A. Orek

Colonel Mark A. Orek is the Commander of the 442nd Operations Group, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. He is responsible for the combat readiness of the 442nd Operations Group consisting of 24 A-10C attack aircraft and over 100 personnel. The 442nd Operations Group is capable of supporting contingency taskings worldwide in accordance with national objectives.

Colonel Orek earned his commission through the U.S Air Force Academy in 1998. He served 12 years in the regular Air Force flying the F-16 and T-38 IFF where he held various positions including introduction to fighter fundamentals branch chief, deputy inspector general for plans and inspections, and assistant director of operations. In 2010, Colonel Orek transitioned to the reserves flying the A-10C with the 303rd Fighter Squadron.

He has served as flight commander, assistant director of operations and director of operations for the 303 Fighter Squadron. Colonel Orek was selected as the commander, 442d Operations Support Flight and prior to his current position, he served as the Inspector General for the 442d Fighter Wing.

Colonel Orek has deployed numerous times in support of Operation Southern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom. Colonel Orek has earned numerous medals and awards for his achievements while deployed including the Afghanistan campaign medal. He is a command pilot with more than 3,700 total hours and over 520 combat hours in the A-10 and F-16. In his civilian capacity, he flies for a Delta Air Lines.
