The 442d Fighter Wing unveils new mission, vision, and priorities (MVPs). This change is reflective of our history as a fighter wing and what we provide to the nation in a joint environment.

Mission: Total Force Airmen Ready to Attack, Support, and Defend

We have a workforce that represents our entire makeup – active duty, reservists, and civilians.

“It is important to us that everyone understands where they fit in” said Col. Steve Nester, commander of the 442d Fighter Wing. “Our various crafts enable us to maintain a lethal force ready to compete in any environment”.

Vision: A Lethal and Agile Fighter Wing Driven by Skilled and Innovative Airmen…Always Ready!

We want our Airmen to feel supported and empowered to reach their full potential and to achieve success for both themselves and for the greater organization. We will continue to invest in our people and evolve to meet the needs of a new generation.

Priorities: People Focused, Mission Ready, Promote Innovation

  • People Focused – Our Airmen make the mission happen and are the lifeblood of our force. Providing the proper training, educational opportunities, and talent management will allow them to execute our mission. The welfare of our Airmen, to include their families, is an essential component to our strength, and we will leverage opportunities to support each other and enhance the quality of life in the heartland.
  • Mission Ready – We must provide joint and coalition forces with the greatest strategic advantage and the most responsible, flexible military options for both competition and conflict. We will be ready to execute when called through exercises with our joint and Air Force partners, which continually refine our readiness to assure our allies, partners, and ourselves so that we are ready to perform at a moment’s notice.
  • Promote Innovation – We must challenge the status quo and adopt concepts and technologies that drive readiness, resilience, and lethality.

We will continue to focus service on the changes in the strategic environment, empowering our Airmen to act decisively. We need to be bold and seek investments in the future force across the Air Force’s core missions. American airpower must continue to dominate, so that the United States can lead from a position of strength.

“The 442d Fighter Wing is committed to providing superior fire power and developing resilient Airmen who feel connected to the wing while maintain a balance in their civilian lives” said Nester. “We truly believe our MVP’s communicate how we can support our greatest asset: our Airmen, while seamlessly operating in a joint environment providing close air support, combat search and rescue, forward air control, and precision strike capabilities. We are a highly experience, combat-proven unit who train to, and maintain, the same standards as Active duty.”
