WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo.-- The 442d Chapter Reserve Organization of America (formerly Reserve Officers’ Association) awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Mr. Ricky Boedeker during the 442d Fighter Wing’s Family Day event October 6, 2019, in the 5-Bay hangar here.

Boedeker is the spouse of Tech. Sgt. Kiley Boedeker, an Air Reserve Technician with the 442d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

His wife encouraged him to apply for the scholarship, which he did not expect to win when he saw how many other entrants there were, he said.

“Nope, it’s not gonna be that good,” he said of the essay he submitted. “But, you know, you take a shot, and there we are.”

Boedeker is pursuing a doctorate in school district leadership. He currently teaches 7th grade science.
