Brigadier General Michael T. Schultz is the Commander of the 442d Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve unit with headquarters at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo. He is responsible for the combat readiness of approximately 1,300 Air Force reservists and 24 A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft at Whiteman AFB and a geographically separated unit; the 476th Fighter Group at Moody AFB, Ga.
Brig. Gen. Schultz earned his Bachelors of Business Administration degree and received his commission through ROTC from Angelo State University, Texas. He began his career as a missile launch officer in 1991, before being selected for Undergraduate Pilot Training in 1995 at Reese AFB, Texas. Brig. Gen. Schultz transitioned into the Air Force Reserve in 2006 after 14 years in the Regular Air Force. He served in various operations capacities at the squadron, group, and Headquarters Air Force levels, has flown combat missions in Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and ENDURING FREEDOM, and deployed to provide Theater Support for South Korea.
Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Commander of the 926th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., executing legacy 5th generation and remotely piloted aircraft, as well as space, cyber, aircraft maintenance, mission support, and medical operations. He commanded more than 1,500 unit reservists who are classically associated in Total Force Integration constructs throughout Air Combat Command and the United States Air Force Warfare Center, supporting their test, tactics and training missions, and conducting 24/7 combat operations for Air Forces in Europe, Africa Command, and Central Command theaters of operation. Brig. Gen. Schultz is a command pilot with more than 3,085 flying hours.
